The AHA today expressed support for the Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Expansion Act (H.R.1767/S. 824), bipartisan legislation that would renew and expand an innovative demonstration program that expands access to treatment of mental illnesses and substance use disorders through community-based clinics.
The AHA supports the administration鈥檚 goal of expanding access to coverage and increasing competition between health plans, but does not believe that efforts to facilitate the sale of insurance across state lines 鈥渨ill achieve either of those goals in a meaningful way,鈥 the association said today, responding to a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services request for input on how to enhance insurers鈥 ability to sell individual health insurance across state lines.
