He succeeds Lawrence Massa, who retired in September and <a href="/news/headline/2019-11-25-obituary-former-minnesota-hospital-association-ceo-lawrence-lorry-massa">died</a> Nov. 22. Koranne has 20 years of health care experience spanning the continuum of care. </p> <p>“Rahul’s experience includes leadership in both a large health system and one of Minnesota’s smallest critical access hospitals,” said MHA Board Chair Sara Criger, senior vice president, Allina Health, and president, Mercy Hospital and United Hospital. “In addition, Rahul brings the leadership qualities the board of directors was seeking as well as a deep commitment to our mission of improving the health of Minnesotans. Washington previously served as the national coordinator for health IT at ONC from August 2016 to January 2017, <a href="https://www.fiercehealthcare.com/tech/alphabet-s-verily-nabs-health-it-policy-leader-vindell-washington-as-its-new-chief-clinical" target="_blank">Fierce Healthcare reports</a>. Washington also worked at the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System in Baton Rouge, La., leaving as president of its medical group. Verily also recently hired <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/deepak-ahuja-9532b69" target="_blank">Deepak Ahuja</a>, a former Tesla executive who helped take the company public, as its chief financial officer.</p> <p><a href="https://www.walgreens.com/businesssolutions/home/home.jsp?o=acs" target="_blank">Walgreens</a>, meanwhile, has <a href="https://www.healthexec.com/topics/leadership/walgreens-hires-new-chief-medical-officer" target="_blank">hired Kevin Ban, M.D., as its chief medical officer</a>. Ban, who has more than 20 years of clinical experience, held the same position at athenahealth. Callahan worked most recently as chief strategy officer for the revenue cycle-management firm Change Healthcare and before that as senior vice president of corporate strategy and business development at McKesson.</p> <p>What types of changes Callahan will bring to Lyft remain to be seen, but the company and its chief rival Uber have been quickly integrating their services into health care. Lyft says it’s working with thousands of health care organizations and notes that 3.6 million people can’t get the care they need each year because they lack transportation. In March, Lyft began a partnership with Allscripts to provide nonemergency transportation for people who need to get to medical appointments. That same month, Uber launched its <a href="https://www.uber.com/newsroom/uber-health/" tareget="_blank">Uber Health app</a>, which is a text-based phone service that doesn’t require a smartphone to use.</p> <p>Elsewhere, <a href="https://www.healthaffairs.org/do/10.1377/hblog20180907.685440/full/" target="_blank">a Health Affairs blog</a> notes that CareMore Health, a subsidiary of Anthem Inc., has used Lyft to improve the patient experience and lower costs.
