The recent joining of resources between two regional hospitals will bring increased peace of mind to parents of newborns in the Laramie area of southeast Wyoming.

Ivinson Memorial Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado have partnered in a Care Alliance to elevate neonatal and pediatric care for the region's youngest patients, bringing a new chapter of pediatric health care for families, enhanced access to specialized services and improved outcomes in rural communities.

The collaborative, nonmonetary agreement will introduce neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs) to Ivinson Memorial’s nursery and pediatric units, providing around the clock inpatient care for newborns and patients under the age of two, making it the first hospital in Wyoming to offer such a service.

Hospital leaders say the NNPs also add a new layer of child health expertise to the Laramie community and will elevate the education, training, coordination and overall care provided at Ivinson Memorial.

Children’s Hospital Colorado partners with community hospitals across a 1,000-mile radius including Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and New Mexico.

“Thanks to this groundbreaking initiative, every baby born at Ivinson Memorial be seen by an expert neonatal nurse practitioner before discharge, ensuring the highest level of care for newborns from the very start,” said Margot Carr, a hospital clinical educator at IMH. “This advancement represents a major step forward for neonatal care in Wyoming.”
