Study: Ambulatory Care RNs Can Contribute to MACRA Quality Efforts

Registered nurses in ambulatory care practices are important resources in helping meet care planning and care coordination quality metrics for the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, a paper in the March/April issue of Nursing Economics. The authors surveyed 424 members of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing about their care management practices and found that the vast majority of ambulatory care settings use nurses as care managers, while social workers and other team members were sometimes also eligible to take the role. Nurses Show Up for Sexual Assault Survivors 

Nurses at forensic facilities in New Mexico work to collect evidence from sexual assault survivors, the Albuquerque Journal . Because crime labs require forensic exams to be completed within five days of an assault, these facilities give survivors opportunity to get forensics of their assaults legally on record. The nurses on staff – about 70 in total – typically do this work in addition to their full-time jobs elsewhere and go through special training through the New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs to become a sexual assault nurse examiner, or a SANE. SANEs are on call for 12-hour shifts, during which they must respond at any time to the center to conduct an exam.
