Nurses Can Impact Change, Drive Wellness

Nurses often influence change, drive innovation, and solve problems in health care organizations, and deserve recognition for it, a Health Leaders article . 鈥淣urses are problem-solvers,鈥 AONE member Maggie Fowler, system vice president and chief nursing officer at SSM Health in St. Louis, told the publication. 鈥淲e need [nurses鈥橾 eyes and ears to help us recognize how we can improve not only the care in a hospital setting, but in an ambulatory setting and all the places where care is going to be delivered going forward.鈥 

Woman Who Experiences Sudden Death Syndrome Saved by Nurses

Georgia resident Kelly Davis was eating at a local restaurant when her heart stopped and she lost consciousness. Thankfully, three nurses who were eating nearby rushed to help her, WMAZ . They gave her CPR until paramedics arrived, saving her life. And, as luck would have it, the first nurse to help Davis became one of her caregivers at Coliseum Medical Center, where Davis was diagnosed with Sudden Death Syndrome and is now recovering.

AONE to Honor Members for Outstanding Leadership Practice

The American Organization of Nurse Executives will recognize several members with 2018 during its annual meeting this week in Indianapolis. The honorees are: Mercy Medical Center 鈥 AONE Prism Diversity Award; Brandon 鈥淜it鈥 Bredimus, RN, director of emergency services at Midland (TX) Memorial Hospital 鈥 Pamela Austin Thompson Early Careerist Award; and Iowa Organization of Nurse Leaders 鈥 AONE Affiliate Achievement Award. AONE, an AHA subsidiary, is the national professional organization for nurses who design, facilitate and manage care.

Nursing Appointments in the Field 

Mercyhealth in Rockford, IL, appointed Doreen Timm to senior director and chief nursing officer for two Mercyhealth locations: Mercyhealth Hospital-Rockton Avenue Rockford and Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center-Riverside, the organization . 

Medical City North Hills in North Richland Hills, TX, made John Marker its chief nursing officer, the organization . Prior to this role, Marker was the chief nursing officer at Women鈥檚 & Children鈥檚 Hospital in Lafayette, LA, since 2009. 

Michelle LeBeau has been named president of Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, NY, and chief operating officer of Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY, the organization . LeBeau will succeed Stephens Mundy, who for 16 years served with distinction as a health care leader in the North Country. LeBeau was the COO at CVPH since 2015 and prior to that was the vice president of Human Resources.
