Congress reintroduces bipartisan legislation extending workforce program for foreign-born physicians
Both chambers of Congress have reintroduced AHA-supported legislation, the Conrad State 30 and Physician Access Reauthorization Act (]/), to reauthorize and expand the program that allows foreign-born medical graduates to practice medicine in rural and underserved areas. The bipartisan legislation extends the program for three years and would increase current state allocations from 30 to 35 physicians per year. It would also provide flexibility to expand the number of waivers in states where demand exceeds that limit.
