AHA Jan. 30 voiced support for bipartisan, bicameral to reauthorize through 2029 the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act, which provides grants to help health care organizations offer behavioral health services for front-line health care workers. Introduced Jan. 30 by Sens. Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Todd Young, R-Ind., and Reps. Jen Kiggans, R-Va., Susan Wild, D-Pa., Buddy Carter, R-Ga., and Debbie Dingell, D-Mich., the bill also would reauthorize a that provides hospital leaders with evidence-based solutions to support worker well-being. Without congressional action, the law will expire at the end of this year.

“The AHA thanks Senators Kaine and Young and Representatives Kiggans, Wild, Carter and Dingell for their strong leadership and dedication to addressing the mental health challenges facing our nation’s health care workers,” said AHA Executive Vice President Stacey Hughes. “Reauthorizing the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act is critical in providing our caregivers the support they deserve. Doing so will also help ensure patients and communities continue to have access to high-quality, compassionate, and accessible care.”
