Northwell Health Sept. 18 hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who recognized  at the health system’s Staten Island University Hospital for their ongoing efforts to support his nation’s medical providers amid Ukraine’s war with Russia. Zelenskyy, who was in town for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, presented his nation’s Order of Merit, a special distinction awarded to individuals for outstanding achievements, to Northwell President and CEO Michael Dowling and SIUH team members Eugene Holuka, M.D., Rebecca Gonzalez and Peter Leone in honor of their exceptional leadership in providing vital medical care to Ukraine. Zelenskyy also met with wounded Ukrainian soldiers who received advanced prosthetics and critical rehabilitation at Northwell after sustaining devastating injuries in the Russian invasion.
