The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services sent to each state letters regarding compliance with federal requirements related to automatic eligibility renewals, known as “ex parte” renewals, under Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. The  note that children are especially at risk for losing Medicaid coverage through disenrollment for states failure to adhere to federal ex parte renewal requirements and outline specific steps for states to come into compliance or face compliance actions. Such actions include disqualification of the temporary increase in federal Medicaid funds authorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.
