AHA joins coalition to promote COVID-19 safety, health insurance enrollment

In a push to compel more Americans to seek health insurance coverage and protect themselves from COVID-19, the AHA, American Medical Association, American Public Health Association and a host of other organizations, elected leaders, states, individual hospitals and doctors today announced .
鈥淪ixteen million Americans are eligible for coverage today,鈥 said co-chair Peter Lee, also executive director of Covered California. 鈥淢ost Americans think they can鈥檛 afford health insurance, but with financial help they can.鈥
In addition to health insurance, he said, 鈥済etting covered is about wearing a mask.鈥
The coalition said disparities, including race, have exacerbated the COVID-19 pandemic鈥檚 effects, resulting in roughly 525,000 uninsured Americans diagnosed with the coronavirus.
