Federal Communication Commission Chairman Ajit Pai has named John Riggi, AHA senior advisor for cybersecurity and risk, to represent the field and the AHA on the agency’s Hospital Robocall Protection Group, which will issue best practices to combat unlawful robocalls to hospitals.

These unlawful calls are more than a nuisance, they can tie up critical hospital communication lines and interfere with patient care services.

Authorized by the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act of 2019, the group will hold its first meeting July 27. It expects to issue best practices by Dec. 23 to help voice service providers, hospitals and federal and state governments combat robocalls to hospitals.
