Treasury expands HDHP preventive care benefits allowed without a deductible
The Department of the Treasury and Internal Revenue Service today the list of preventive care benefits that high-deductible health plans can cover prior to a deductible for patients with chronic conditions. For example, the new benefits include insulin and A1c testing for diabetics and beta-blockers for patients with congestive heart failure. The notice responds to a June by President Trump directing the Secretary of the Treasury to expand access to HDHPs that patients with chronic conditions can use with a health savings account to cover low-cost preventive care before the deductible to maintain health status.
