CMS: 11.4 million enroll in exchange plan during 2019 open enrollment
About 11.4 million people actively or automatically enrolled in a health plan through HealthCare.gov or a state-based exchange during open enrollment for 2019, according to a final released yesterday by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. That's about 300,000, or 3 percent, fewer than in 2018. About 8.4 million people enrolled through HealthCare.gov, and the rest through the 12 state-based marketplaces. Approximately 60 percent of those who enrolled through HealthCare.gov selected a silver plan, and 87 percent received an advance premium tax credit. The average monthly premium for HealthCare.gov consumers with an APTC was $87, versus $520 for those without an APTC. More than 2.7 million enrollees were new to the exchanges. The report includes additional data on 2019 plan selections, consumer demographics, premiums and financial assistance as well.
