NASEM workshop Feb. 4 on opioid prescribing guidelines for acute pain
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Committee on Evidence-based Clinical Practice Guidelines for Prescribing Opioids for Acute Pain will host a Feb. 4 as part of its information gathering activities. The Food and Drug Administration last year awarded NASEM a contract to develop evidence-based guidelines for appropriate opioid prescribing for acute pain. The workshop will feature presentations and panel discussions on surgical procedures and medical conditions associated with acute pain, and identifying and using evidence to inform the guidelines. AHA is a member of the National Academy of Medicine Action Collaborative on Countering the U.S. Opioid Epidemic, a public-private partnership that will develop and disseminate evidence-based solutions to reduce opioid misuse and improve outcomes for individuals, families and communities affected by addiction.
