The AHA today released a new resource highlighting the importance of addressing the social determinants of health. The PowerPoint presentation includes an overview of the social determinants of health, which include housing, food, education, transportation, violence, social support, employment and health behaviors. It also outlines the impact the social determinants of health have on individuals and communities; steps hospitals and health systems can take to address them; case examples from organizations who are taking action to address certain social determinants; and AHA resources. Hospital and health system leaders can use the presentation in conversations with their employees, trustees and community. For more resources, visit the AHA’s social determinants of health webpage and the AHA’s Value Initiative webpage.
