The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has a five-year agreement with Maryland to expand the state鈥檚 all-payer model from focusing on hospitals to also incentivizing other providers to address the total cost of care beginning in 2019. 鈥淥ver the past five years, Maryland鈥檚 hospitals have laid the foundation for linking quality health care with cost containment,鈥 said Maryland Hospital Association President and CEO Bob Atlas. 鈥淒uring this time, the model has saved Medicare and patients hundreds of millions of dollars and has enabled hospitals to invest in innovative, proactive initiatives.
