ADA Supports Opioid Prescribing Limits, Continuing Education
The American Dental Association has adopted a supporting certain statutory limits on opioid dosage and duration and mandatory continuing education in prescribing opioids and other controlled substances. The policy also supports dentists using prescription drug monitoring programs and improving state PDMPs to make them more interoperable. 鈥淎s president of the ADA, I call upon dentists everywhere to double down on their efforts to prevent opioids from harming our patients and their families,鈥 ADA President Joseph Crowley. 鈥淭his new policy demonstrates ADA鈥檚 firm commitment to help fight the country鈥檚 opioid epidemic while continuing to help patients manage dental pain.鈥
