House Panel Holds Hearing on Bills to Address Opioid Crisis
The House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee today opened a two-day on 25 bills designed to address the opioid crisis. Witnesses from the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration outlined steps their agencies are taking to address the epidemic. Witnesses from The Kennedy Forum, Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, Biotechnology Innovation Organization, Association for Accessible Medicines, and DisposeRx also testified. AHA is weighing in on the bills with the committee. Chairmen of the relevant committees in Congress have said they hope to enact comprehensive legislation by Memorial Day. The subcommittee hearing will continue tomorrow with testimony from additional witnesses.
