AONE to honor nursing leader for lifetime achievement
The American Organization of Nurse Executives on March 30 will present its 2017 to Pamela Austin Thompson, AONE CEO emeritus. Thompson retired last July after serving 16 years as AONE CEO and as AHA senior vice president nursing and chief nursing officer since 2010. AONE is an AHA subsidiary. In her dual role, Thompson led the AHA Workforce Center’s efforts to strengthen the health care workforce and the redesign of patient care delivery. She also served as director of the national program office for the Academic Progression in Nursing grant initiative, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree. Before joining AONE, Thompson was vice president of the Children’s Hospital, obstetrics, psychiatric services and strategic planning at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. The award will be presented during the AONE Annual Meeting in Baltimore.
