ONC announces new grant program to support health information exchange
Community groups can apply through June 16 for a portion of $1 million in grants for projects to support the flow of health information to a wide range of health care providers at the community level, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Karen DeSalvo, M.D., today. ONC expects to award the grants to up to 10 organizations, including state or local government agencies, through the Community Interoperability and Health Information Exchange Program. “The flow of health information across the entire care continuum is a critical step to realizing a learning health system that results in not only better care, but healthier people and communities,” DeSalvo said. “The new Community Interoperability and HIE program will fund local efforts that will leverage health IT in support of a more comprehensive digital data picture of health for people and their communities.”
