The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services today approved Indiana’s plan to expand its Healthy Indiana Plan for low-income uninsured adults as an alternative to expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. “It’s a great day for so many in our state, including hard-working families, veterans and others who have struggled without health insurance,”  Indiana Hospital Association President Doug Leonard. “Through HIP 2.0, more than 350,000 additional Hoosiers will now have affordable options for coverage, and Indiana hospitals stand ready to educate our patients about the new program.” Indiana is the 29th state, including the District of Columbia, to expand Medicaid under the ACA. “The administration will continue to work with governors interested in expanding Medicaid to devise approaches that work for their states while keeping faith with the law’s goals and consumer protections,”  Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
