Senators returned to Washington this week to continue debate on legislation that would repeal and replace significant parts of the Affordable Care Act. An estimated 22 million people would lose coverage if the Senate approved the bill as currently drafted.
Key to protecting coverage for millions of Americans is to make sure your Republican senators hear from you – and your entire hospital or health system family. Many of you are doing that – and we’re pleased to continue to share your grassroots advocacy efforts.
In Pennsylvania, Main Health Line President and CEO Jack Lynch encouraged all of his Bryn Mawr-based health system’s employees and medical staff members to weigh in with Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., on the Senate’s Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA). Toomey was one of 13 Republican senators tasked with drafting the bill.
More than 1,900 employees responded to his request. They called on Toomey to protect coverage and ensure that the most vulnerable patients would not be harmed under any health care legislation to clear the Senate. Kudos to Lynch and his entire health system family for calling on the senator to “reset the health care reform discussion” and fighting for what’s best for their patients and community.
Let senators feel the importance of what this means to the hospital community. Tell them what it’s like on the front lines of health care. Urge them to oppose the BCRAand work for bipartisan solutions to help all Americans access the care they need.
